Portuguese soprano Mónica Monteiro studied Singing and Ear Training in Lisbon, Portugal.
Owner of a bright and warm timbre, Mónica brings lightness and intensity to her interpretations.
She is open to all repertoires from Renaissance to today's music although she has been acclaimed for her performance in the Italian and German baroque period.
Mónica has performed Bach's St John's Passion, Weihnachts Oratorium, Handel's Israel in Egypt, Carissimi's Jepthe, Monteverdi's Tancredo ed Clorinda, Vivaldi's Salve Regina, Ferrandini's Il pianto di Maria under the direction of conductors such as Laurence Cummings, Richard Egarr, Peter Dijkstra and Risto Joost. Mónica recorded several works of the Portuguese baroque period as a soloist.
Mónica sang Fauré's Requiem solo with Nederlands Kamerkoor and Amsterdam Sinfonietta on a tour through South America where she performed at the great hall of Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Having a vast experience as a choir and ensemble singer Mónica has worked on occasion with several groups in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and Portugal, including Amsterdam Baroque Choir, Nederlandse Bach Vereniging, Egidius Kwartet (the Netherlands), Currende, Vox Luminis (Belgium), Gulbenkian Choir, Officium vocal Group, Sete Lágrimas and Ludovice Ensemble (Portugal) just to name a few.
Currently Mónica is a core member at the Nederlands Kamerkoor and a founding member of The Windsor Consort (the Netherlands), a vocal ensemble specializing in the performance of a-cappella vocal music from the Renaissance and Baroque Period.
